With the aid of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the centre was established under the Colombo Plan (UK Government) and Technical Collaboration mission (USA Government). Initially a part of Applied Chemistry, in 1981, it became an independent Centre and acquired advanced Processing and Testing equipment from Indo-British, Indo-French collaborative programmes and also a large research projects by CSIR, DST, ICAR, BARC, ISRO, CEAT trye, etc. Some of the recent Sponsored projects undertaken by the department include Green tyre technology, Polymer and rubber blends, Development of conductive nanocomposites for EMI shielding applications and sensor applications, Polymer Nanocomposites for food packaging, Conductive smart textile for space application, Waste rubber modified bitumen for highway application, Smart self-healing and shape memory polymeric materials, Polymeric materials for drug delivery, Development Rubber product design and development, Chemical devulcanisation and Waste rubber recycling, high performance TPEs and TPVs, Radiation processing of filled elastomers and Development of thermally conductive rubber composites etc. Our Alumni connect is excellent and job prospect is also of high level.

A couple of years back Rubber Technology Centre (RTC) was awarded as the topmost Institute in the education and research in Rubbers in Asia. We offer two years M.Tech. degree and Ph.D. degree. Presently we have about 40 M.Tech students and 54 PhD students. We also offer breadth courses to the B.Tech students in both the semesters which have been very popular among the students studying engineering as well as basic sciences of different disciplines over the years. Apart from these activities we regularly organize short term courses, Webinars and International Conferences. T
This Centre is one of the most vibrant Centres/Departments in our institute. We have collaborative projects with different industries like major petrochemical industries in India and abroad, different tire industries, different rubber & polymer manufacturing industries in India & abroad, coating, paint industries etc. We have/had good international collaborations with different Institutes around the globe.
Our Alumni connect is excellent and job prospect is also of high level.
