My long-term goal is to design sustainable farming system model for small and marginal farmers, which is expected to enhance food grain productivity and economy of rural India. To cope with the climate change/variability and food security issues, I am pursuing research on Climate Change Adaptations/Mitigations and Organic Farming for sustainable agricultural growth and quality food production.
For climate change experiment, field crops (rice and wheat) are grown in controlled CO2 environment in Open Top Chambers under different agronomic management for understanding the agro-adaptations to elevated CO2 and temperature environment. The field experimental data are used for calibration of crop model (DSSAT model) and its application for crop yield simulation in future climate scenarios.
For sustainable agricultural production, organic farming using various organic sources is practiced for cereal-based cropping system in lateritic soil of subtropical India. Organic farming is compared with chemical farming with respect to soil fertility (organic carbon content and nutrient status), food quality (nutritional composition and antioxidant content) and environmental impact (greenhouse gas emission).
